Where: Ubud, Bali
When: November 2019
To the North West of Ubud (a 30 minute scooter ride) is the Sangeh Monkey Forest. Most people visiting Ubud go to the better known Ubud Monkey Forest that is in central Ubud itself. We looked at both options but apparently, Sangeh Monkey Forest has a much better track record with the animals welfare which was important to us. The animals there are also supposedly less aggressive and the grounds more impressive.
If you (or your children!) want to see wild(ish) monkeys then I’d highly recommend it. Even the local guides don’t pressure you to buy anything, and are worth having to show you round and explain different areas for a small donation. They also know which particular monkeys to keep away from and which are the tamest.
